Making a TV Advert

If you have considered making a TV advert for your business, below is some information specific to TV Advertising. 1. Advertising To The Right Target Audience

It’s important that we have an in-depth understanding of the demographics that make up your target market so we can speak their language and deliver the right message. Once we understand your market we can begin the next step which is the pre – production process, the creative beginning for your TV commercials.

We create three variations for every client and work with you every step of the way so that your message uses the right voice and retains viewer attention. 2. Making Your Adverts Work

In the research stage  above (phase one) we established the target market. Now we move on plan out the key elements of your advert starting with the right script. A lot of effort goes in to the planning stage before any filming starts so that we can confidently stay on the agreed budget and crucially hit our time deadlines.

Other factors to consider at this stage are actors usage fees, voice over and music tracks and possibly animation. As a production company with well over 20 years in the business Tristar are well connected with access to top prodiucers, actors and crew. We work with many of the best people in the business.

The content creation work from animation to voice over and music is all inclusive in the quoted cost and Tristar are one of very few production companies to own our own equipment and 2500 square foot studio. In addition our sets and set building service is something very few studios have. So no matter what content is required, we can provide all you need for a successful campaign.

 

3. Clearing Your Ad

In the production stage the technical elements need to be carefully designed to so as to meet the required broadcasting standards. In the UK all adverstising on TV must be cleared for broadcast by an organisation known as Clearcast. We are registered with Clearcast and have direct links to get your advertising approved quickly. If necessary we can make any adjustments required and resubmit adverts to Clearcast for final approval.

Without Clearcast approval we can’t run your adverts. So it’s critical to get the script approved before any filming begins. This avoids mistakes, speeds up the production process, and avoids unnecessary cost. We can submit a rough cut of your adverts to Clearcast for their approval while the post production works on grading and finishing the final version of your TV commercial. That way we achieve clearance ready for final broadcasting.

 

1. Buying Your Advertising Airtime.

Here we determin which channels and over what time period your ads should run. We will work with you to establish whether you want to run a national campaign or regional campaign.

Having established relationships with the major networks means our company buying power can provide media buying services at a competitive rate and save you negotiating with each individual channel. The advert cost is determined by the size of the target audience you need to reach, time of day, the channels, the number of airtime minutes required and of course the initial production. Airtime can be the most expensive element in TV advertising so our media experts will work hard to ensure we hit the right demographic to ensiure the highest return on your ad spend.

 

4. Airtime Ad Delivery

After all the production and post – production is complete and Clearcast approval is verified, we’re ready to go to broadcast. Your Tristar media buyer will handle all of the negotiations through the service providers and make sure the correct format is sent to each broadcaster. This includes copy instructions which tell the broadcaster when to air your adverts. We handle all of the paperwork to make sure your ads are run effectively. There are a couple of service providers who handle the uploading of ads to the broadcasters systems, these are Adstream and IMD.

Get Your Campaign Started

For Diamond Football we created a 20 second and a 10 second TV commercial.

The campaign ran for 3 months on BT Sports 1, 2 and 3 focusing on weekend transmission.

We then ran a follow up campaign with selected spots around high profile Football events.

Results:  Through a sustained spot campaign we more than doubled Diamond Footballs website traffic from below 4,000 in July to 10,236 in September (See top graph).
